My grt grt Grandfather was Jeremiah Vardeman Cockrell who went by "Jerry" or "Vard" Cockrell. He was born in MO. and married Mary Ann Loveless. They came to Linn. County and my grt Grandfather Milborn L. Cockrell was born and became a Cattleman in Parker. Milborn married Florence Caskey and they had two daughters: Valeta and Calata Louise "Peggy" Cockrell-Baker(My Grandmother). Other Surnames are Oakley, Archer,Lovelace,Wollard. They had 5 children Marion b. 1879, Mary Ann b. April 1884, Mattie Lee b. January 1885, Arthur William b. May 1888 and Alma May b. August 1890 all born in Kansas except Mattie Lee was born in Missouri. Sarah Belle Henderson Crabtree married Harvey E. Hutton on May 30, 1909 in Rich Hill, Bates County, MO. He was in the Civil War 12 Mo. Cav. and 9th Mo. Cav. Married Jane Walkup who died 17 July 1900. Obit listed 5 children 2 dying in infancy. No names. They were famers and stayed there about two years before going on to Fontana, Miami Co. KS. I am trying to locate the buriel sites for them. I had no luck in Miami Co. so they suggested I look in Linn Co. Marenus Symonds died in 1905 and Clarie died in 1923. There is a record of Marenus death but nothing on Clarie also known as Mary Clarissa. Would appreciate any information I can find. Thank you, Cordelia |

Kansas opened up in March 1854. The first Census is 1860 which you can find online at Ancestry.com for a fee. |
