His brother married Mamie RICE. They are the daughters of Andrew RICE and Mary Frances WHITE. Mary's parents were Henry WHITE and Elizabeth BARNES. Ron Gear Fri, 17 Apr 1998 20:54:00 I would like information about the GEAR families of Linn County, Kansas. My great grandfather Milton GEAR lived there from 1880 to 1905. His parents were Luther GEAR and Lavina FREEMAN from Butler, County, Ohio. Milton married Ada MASON in 1879 and they had 10 children. In 1905 they moved to Canada. The 1900 census shows 4 other GEAR families at Parker, Kansas. Prior to 1900, Sylvanus GEAR, a cousin of Milton returned to Butler County, Ohio with his family. I would like any information about these GEAR families. |

Janeice Keady Crosson Wed, 22 Apr 1998 09:16:51 GRIFFITH, John Benjamin was my great great grandfather. He was born April 28, 1828 in Ohio, moved in 1849 to Schuyler Co, Illinois. Married Emaline HUFF At Brooklyn, Ill in 1849. They moved to Linn County, Ks in 1863 where they homesteaded. They raised 11 children and area both buried in the Walnut Grove Cemetery near Mound City. I am interested in the earlier history of John GRIFFITH and Emaline HUFF. Have much descendant information to share. |

His son Michael CROSSON had drowned in the LaCygne River in April of 1898, leaving a wife Molly CROSSON nee MYERS and three small children. William CROSSON must have gone to Linn County in the company of his small son Charles CROSSON and his daughter Louisa SARVER and her husband John. Am trying to locate death record for William CROSSON. I have much descendant information to share. |

Louise was born in Wisconsin and John in Brown's Grove Twp, Pawnee Co, KS. They went to Linn Co. in the company of her brother Charles CROSSON, minor, and her father William CROSSON possibly to visit her widowed sister-in-law Mollie CROSSON nee MYERS. They were taking care of young Charles and also Mollie's small children in 1900-1910. Am trying to find a death record for any or all of them. |

I am seeking any information about Samuel NICKEL who first appears on the 1855 Territorial Census, 5th District (Linn Co.). He barely escaped the Marais des Cygnes massacre. His wife, Ellen, and children escaped unharmed when marauders burned down their home. Children's names: William, Samuel, John, Benjamin, Jasper and Newton (twins) Robert, George, Francis, Andrew, Sarah &Mary. I found the family on the 1860 & 1870 censuses and then they disappeared. What happened to the family? Are any buried in Linn Co.? Couldn't find them on the microfiche of Linn County cemeteries at the Family History Center. Did they move back to Missouri? |

She was the mother of Samuel Nickel of Linn Co. and according to Goodspeed's 1888 History of Lawrence Co., MO: "...after the death of her husband, she removed to Kansas with her son where she died in her seventies." On the 1850 US Census of Dade Co., MO she was listed as 70 years of age. Looking for date and place of her death. |

Sabina HARPER 19 Sep 1867; At least 1st 4 of 10 children were born in Linn Co. KS Moved to Holt County, MO in 1890s; Died somewhere in Texas; date unknown. Gr gr grandfather Thomas MALLON appears in 1870 census record for Linn Co, KS Potosi Twp 2, page 117. It is believed he was in some trouble with the law in Texas sometime after 1880 or 1890. Thomas MALLON b. and d. and marriage are unknown. It is also believed Thomas MALLON came to this country because of trouble with the law in Ireland. This probably explains why he is so difficult to trace. |

Children were Wm S, b. 14 July 1849, George W b. abt 1851, Thomas H b. abt 1854-1855, James R b. abt 1856-1858, Mary J b. abt 1859-1860 and John F b. abt 1862. I find Thomas and Elizabeth MALLON in 1850 Census, Bates Co,MO. These people are not listed in 1860 Census index. 1865 Kansas State Census for Potosi Twp shows first 5 children born in Missouri, 6th child John F born in Kansas, probably Linn Co. Vern Paul was kind enough to lookup the 1865 data for me. 1870 Census shows this family still in Linn Co, KS, Potosi Twp No 2. By this time 1st child Wm S MALLON, my gr grandfather had m Sabina HARPER on 19 Sep 1867. I know their 1st few children were born in Linn Co, KS and the family moved to Holt County, MO sometime after 1890. Thomas MALLON left Ireland in connection with some trouble with the law in abt 1840s. He lived in Bates Co, MO then Linn Co,KS. Her served in Company C, 16th Regiment, Kansas (military data provided by Vern Paul lookup) After 1870 census I am unable to find Thomas and Elizabeth MALLON. Current family members say after he left Linn Co,KS he was in trouble with the law again--this time in Texas. Can anyone help? |
