FIFTH KANSAS CAVALRY REGIMENT recruited in Linn County 1861-1865. My great- grandfather, Henry Bascom SCOTT served in companies "D" and "L" during the Civil War. I'm seeking any information on the regiment - including photographs, unit histories, memoirs, copies of letters describing persons and/or events. I'm especially interested in the actions seen at the Battles of Helena, Arkansas (1863) and Mine Creek, Kansas (1864) insofar as they included the 5th Kansas Cavalry. Any photographs or accounts of 5th Kansas Cavalry reunions, GAR meetings or encampments following the war would also be deeply appreciated. Thank you!

I am looking for info on the PORTER family, as follows: Andrew MORWOOD (1850-1937) b. in Piladelphia?, PA., son of Alexander MORWOOD (1818-1890) and Jane NEWTON (1824-1909), both from County Cork, Ireland, married Sadie Jane PORTER (1858-1939), my g-g-grandmother, originally from Allegheny, PA., I believe (I have a pic. of her mother from there). They had eleven children- two or in PA, the rest were born in West Jersey, IL., and they eventually settled in Amoret, MO. If anyone would like information on them, I'll give them what I have.

I would like to find out more about Sadie Jane PORTER and her family, of which many if not all of them lived in Linn and Miami Co.'s according to pictures. Pictures are really all I have, so if anyone can provide me with info on them, I'd greatly appreciate it, and would be happy to send copies of the pictures of PORTERs I have to relatives.

I have pictures of Sadie's siblings: Will PORTER, "Grandma" PORTER, J.W. PORTER, Anna May Day PORTER, Robert Moore PORTER (youngest bro. to Sadie b. Mar. 15, 1867 -written on back of photo), Albert PORTER, Johnny PORTER, Andy PORTER.

Any info anyone could share with me would be appreciated.

My gggrandparents are buried at Blue Mound, Linn County (NW side of town) William H. ALLEN (d 1902) and Mary H. ALLEN (d 1897). We found their stone/burial site in Oct. when we visited that community. Now we think my gggrandfather on the other side of the family Thomas P. MOORE (died abt. 1915) might be buried there also, altho he never lived there - it's possible it would be an unmarked grave. Is there anyone who has a index of the cemetery that might show/name unmarked graves? We have Thos. P's "Last Request" stating his burial wishes but we've never known when/where he died or is buried. Would greatly appreciate information on who to contact to search this out.

DANN PRENTICE was born Oct 1851 in IL. His father was born in NY and his mother in KY. The birth places of the parents suggest that his father was likely in IL before 1850 and that their marriage was in IL. What is his father's name?

DANN PRENTICE appears in the 1880, 1900 and 1910 Linn Co., KS census and his wife, CLARA b. Feb 1861 in IL, and their children: 1. FRED PRENTICE, b. Mar 1879, KS. He appears in the 1910 and 1920 Linn Co. census, living alone. 2. CLARENCE PRENTICE, b. Mar 1882, KS . 3. DELBERT/GILBERT P. PRENTICE, b. Dec 1885, KS. He appears in the 1885 Linn Co. census with his wife, ELDA (b. c. 1892, KS) and children. 4. HAROLD PRENTICE, b. Jun 1889, KS. 5. HAZEL PRENTICE, b. Jun 1889, KS 6. FRANK L. PRENTICE, b. Apr 1891, KS. He appears in the 1920 Linn Co. census with his wife, LAURA M. (b. c. 1899, IL) and son, CECIL L. PRENTICE, b. c. 1919, KS In the 1910 census, Dann was called "Donnal T. Prentice." Maybe that should have been "Dannal" which might be a slurring of the name, "Daniel."

Any information about the ancestry, or descendants, of the above folks would be much appreciated.

TAYLOR, MORRISON, CRIMM, DAVIS
Dear Linn County,
I am looking for family that may have settled in Linn County after the Civil War. My great-grandfather changed the spelling of his first name a lot so I am including all aka's! Lebbieus (or Lebries or Libeus) Clark TAYLOR was born July 11,1845 in either Wisconsin or Pennslyvania. He served with the Union Army and was sent with his regiment to Fort Leavenworth and Fort Riley during the early part of the war. After the war, he moved to Kansas and settled there. I have not been able to locate his whereabouts of the first family he had between 1866 and 1877. He married Margaret MORRISON on Jan. 1, 1867. They had five children in ten years. She died Sept. 6, 1877 - possibly in Linn County. I do not know what happened to the five children (I have all their names and birthdates). In 1885, he married Susan CRIMM in Montgomery Co Kansas and had six more children. In 1870, Susan CRIMM was living in Bourbon County right next to Linn county. There may have been a sister, Cass DAVIS, living in Linn County Also. I am looking for any information I can find on these folks. Thanks in advance for your help. Mary in Louisiana.
